Guan Yin speaks. Corn and beans together
"Greetings! This is Guan Yin speaking.
It is said that some Native Americans would plant corn and beans together, along with squash, and this was called the three sisters.
I am charmed by the idea that the corn grows tall and provides a bean pole for those plants, a way for them to climb and be off the ground. Beans provide nitrogen to the soil, which in turn benefits the corn. I am not sure where squash fall in the symbiosis, but I'm sure it has its place.
What is lovely to think about is that alone these plants will grow all right, but together they support each other and do so much better! It is nature's way, and could be the human way also, if the ingrained notion of separateness could be gotten around.
The corn and the beans are entirely different plants, and yet are nourished by the same soil. They make take different things from the dirt they are planted in, but it's all mother earth, the sky, the rain, the sun. Can you see that you are rooted in the same Divine stuff as every "other" human? That same medium of consciousness, infinite life, infinite light and the essence of Divine love is what we all spring forth from.
...
Like plants, we grow, bloom, bear fruit, and go back to the earth. That which has sustained us receives us back and gives rise to some new form, equally beautiful and with the infinite potentiality of God's life. Our essential spirit returns to the whole.
Can you be a corn stalk for someone? You probably already are, if you have friends, family, co-workers, animal companions. How can you nurture them further? How can you allow them to nurture you?
There is a certain pride in individualism, especially in western societies that actually seems to strive to be separate. Corn must be in their own rows, beans over there against the fence, squash taking over whatever space they're planted in. Plants do have their own wisdom, which seems more than ours at times.
As the times grow more turbulent and seemingly dark, some people draw even further into a self protecting shell, where strange thinking and behaviors proliferate. Other people are going in the opposite direction, truly blooming into their full service and potential to be loving help to others. Difficult times can create great growth and movement. These beings are propelled into a higher realm of light through their selflessness, creativity and sacrifice.
...
Can you be a joyous corn plant, or climbing bean, flourishing together? Of course you can. Much better than to be a bindweed. You all know what that can do to a garden.
Let's give a try to following nature's way, with its bountiful non judging wisdom and abundance. Even the insects that humans try so hard to destroy have their important place in the process! Everything has it's place, on purpose. Mother Earth knows what she's doing.
Just....allow. Allow plants and animals to be what they are, observe and bless them. Tall order for a lot of humans, but if you want a planet to live on, give it a try.
That is all. I love you."
